JANE MAXWELL
MA, LLPC

Who is your ideal client:

I specialize in working with individuals and couples who have experienced significant shifts in their self-perception and relationships due to past events. This might manifest as feeling unworthy of kindness due to past abuse, struggling with social connections because of previous embarrassment, or battling insecurities rooted in comments about their body size from a parent.

In couples therapy, clients may grapple with unresolved issues stemming from past actions or words, even if they occurred years ago. These issues can erode feelings of safety and breed underlying resentment, hindering the ability to connect deeply with their partner.

Many of my clients recognize that these beliefs aren't accurate reflections of reality, yet they still deeply feel their impact. Together, we work to uncover the origins of these beliefs and reprocess old memories to heal and transform these untruths or unhelpful beliefs, fostering growth and resilience in their self-perception and relationships.

Why do you like being a therapist?

I am filled with gratitude that I get to do this job and that my clients trust me with their stories, fears, and vulnerability. The therapeutic relationship is such a beautiful space of growth, healing, and honesty. Learning about the brain, emotions, memories, and thoughts has always been one of my favorite things to do, and now I get to do it for a living.

What’s something you wish people knew about therapy?

I wish more people understood that therapy isn't just for those facing severe mental health challenges. It's a valuable resource for anyone seeking personal growth, self-discovery, or support through life's transitions. Therapy offers a safe, non-judgmental space to explore emotions, develop coping skills, and gain insight into oneself and relationships. Additionally, it's essential to know that therapy isn't about "fixing" someone but rather empowering individuals to navigate their lives more effectively.
